These papers dissect the systems we live within—urban flows, social hierarchies, spatial memory—and how challenging their hidden rules reveals better ways to design.

Each paper asks the same question: What invisible structures govern our spatial experience, and how can design rewrite them?

Not theoretical exercises—these became tools for practice. Recognising feedback loops in urban exclusion shaped more equitable spaces.
From analysis to intervention: Systems thinking taught me to design not for isolated objects, but for living networks that evolve with their people.

"Designing with the Crowd" asks why recurring stampedes in India are often labeled as ‘accidents’.

These tragedies reveal deeper failures: colonial planning legacies, distrust between citizens and government, profit over people. Public space here means control, not care—narrow lanes, single entries, no crowd flow. Marginalized users die first, matter least.

The essay proposes participatory wayfinding systems co-created with vendors, volunteers, communities—modular markers, intuitive flows built with those already managing crowds informally.



"Who Draws the Route?" extends the stampede research, contrasting India's informal crowd wisdom by understanding Sweden's participatory wayfinding and modifying for the Indian context.

Why are vendor routes, volunteer signals ignored in official plans? The essay maps this disconnect through Mumbai tragedies vs. participatory trust models, proposing co-mapping—formal signage meeting lived movement traces.
